Our Story: The Journey of Happy Children's Home
Happy Children's Home is a community-based organization dedicated to giving back to those in need. We empower orphans and vulnerable children to achieve their goals by supporting their education with scholastic essentials, alongside practical vocational skills training.
It Started With Three Children
I never planned to open an orphanage. It all started at my own house in Kumi.
Three young children, Allan, Shadrack, and Elvis, would come to my compound every morning. They were not coming to play. Instead, they were looking for any small chore, such as sweeping, fetching water, or washing, just so I could give them food and some money for school materials. Abandoned by a father struggling with addiction, their mother fled because of the unbearable situation, leaving the children with a sickly grandfather who is also a widower. With no proper care at home, their clothes were torn and their shoes were broken, but they still wanted to go to school.
They touched my heart, so I started by helping just those three. I gave them food, books, and the courage to study. Soon after, they brought two friends, Asio and Faith, bringing the number to five. Not long after that, I met Shellah, who was frequently missing school alongside her two younger siblings because their mother had suffered a mental imbalance following a serious accident. As children naturally follow one another, I soon began noticing new faces. I realized there were over 40 children in the village living the same life. Hunger and dropping out of school were a daily reality for these orphans, children of single mothers, and youth affected by illness, HIV, alcohol abuse, or family breakdown.
I could not turn them away, nor could I turn my eyes and heart away from them. I gathered them together and talked with them in a parental way to learn more about their backgrounds. Their stories were heartbreaking. I took the initiative to visit some of their homes and invited their guardians and single parents to my house to agree on how we could help these vulnerable children. That is exactly how Happy Children's Home was born in 2023.
Today, what started with three children has extended to 40 children. Our vision is to give them what every child deserves, including education, food, healthcare, and love, so they can become self-reliant and productive citizens.

From Three to Forty
We moved quickly to assist them with food and books, and they soon brought friends, Asio and Faith. Within a short time, we met Shellah and her two younger siblings, whose family fell into crisis after their mother suffered a severe accident. Soon, new faces continued to arrive. We realised that over 40 children in the village were enduring the same harsh realities: going hungry, falling behind due to parental illness, alcohol abuse, or total family breakdown, and dropping out of school entirely. Choosing not to turn our hearts away, we initiated parental community assessments and brought guardians together. Today, Happy Children's Home provides a safe ecosystem offering education, food, healthcare, and absolute love to help vulnerable youth grow into independent, productive citizens.
Martha's Journey
Martha is a 14-year-old girl and one of four children in her family. She has three siblings: Hellen, Benjamin, and Isaac. The children are currently supported by Happy Children’s Home, where they receive care, encouragement, and the opportunity to continue their education and build a better future.
Several years ago, their father tragically fell from a roof while doing construction work, sustaining a severe spinal injury that left him unable to walk. This unfortunate accident marked the beginning of serious hardships for the family. Since then, they have struggled to afford basic necessities, including food, clothing, school fees, and essential scholastic materials.
Because of these financial challenges at home, Martha and her brother Isaac have had to work in community gardens to earn money to support their education and help meet some of the family’s daily needs. At such a young age, they carry heavy responsibilities that no child should have to bear.
Their younger siblings, Hellen and Benjamin, also face difficulties accessing education because the family cannot consistently afford school fees and academic requirements. Through Happy Children’s Home, the children have found a place of hope where they receive support to continue pursuing their studies.
However, the needs of these children remain great. They require urgent assistance with school fees, scholastic materials, food, clothing, medical care, and other basic necessities.
We appeal to compassionate individuals, organizations, and well-wishers to stand with Martha and her siblings. Your support can help keep these children in school, protect them from child labor, provide for their basic needs, and give them the opportunity to grow into independent and responsible adults.
When you support a child, you are not only meeting a need today; you are helping to build a brighter tomorrow. Together, we can give Martha, Hellen, Benjamin, and Isaac hope, dignity, education, and a chance to dream again.
